Micky pleased with Vale's performance

Micky Adams was well pleased with the way his side pushed Shrewsbury aside with a terrific first half performance yesterday and also praised his defence for the way they generally kept the visitors at bay in the second forty-five minutes.

minute when the fella went through and should have done better.thHe said: “In the first half we were excellent, other than the one little lapse on concentration in the 45

“We started the game really well on the front foot, had a couple of chances before we got our first goal, but I was really pleased with our first half performance.

“I thought we were bright, sharp, we were switched on, showed a lot of good things, did a lot of good things and deservedly came in two-nil ahead.

“I gave the lads a warning in the dressing room that their manager certainly wouldn’t have been happy with their first half performance. They had nothing left, they were losing two-nil in a local derby.

“We expected them to get more players forward and they did that, they started to take chances really and what we needed was a little bit more clinical finishing.

“We had chances to make it three-one and that would have killed them off a little bit sooner, but they got the goal and to be fair to them they put us on the back foot, but we needed to get that goal if we could.

“Defensively we tried to do the right things. We lost Liam Chilvers with a stomach bug before the game but I thought Richard Duffy came in and was excellent.

“That has really given me a little bit of food for thought because he has been desperate to play at centre half, he’s telling me he’s a centre half,

“He’s got his chance and I thought he was different class, he was cool and composed and he’s won all of his challenges.

“They got us on the back foot but we knew the importance of the game to our supporters, it means a lot but we have got the three points.”
