Defender targets a shut-out at Swindon
Saturday sees the opportunity to make it three wins in a row if Vale can see off Swindon Town – easier said than done, but defender Liam Chilvers is hopeful if the defence can do their job, they will achieve their aims.
He said: “It would be great to go on a good run and to get three wins in a row would be even better but we know it is going to be a hard game, so we will go there resolute, trying to keep a clean sheet and to build on that.
“”It is always nice to keep a clean sheet, especially in the Crawley game away from home – it was good to keep a clean sheet there.
“Obviously we are always disappointed to concede, and to go behind against Gillingham was disappointing, but all in all we have been quite pleased with the last two games.
“It is going to be a hard game at Swindon, they have got some good players in there and we are expecting them to try and knock the ball around.
“At the same time they have a big lad up front and he has got a real physical presence so you will find they will have that mixture of playing the ball and at the same time they can do the rough stuff.
“It is going to be a hard game and we are just going to have to go there and do what we can.”
After missing out on the opening few games of the season, Liam has now become a permanent fixture in Vale’s back four and the partnership with Chris Robertson is starting to develop.
Liam says: “I wasn’t in the squad at the start of the season so I have just had to carry on with the training and do things right.
“I have been in the game long enough to know what I have got to do and not to let those things affect you and disappear into your own little world.
“It was great to get back in the team and it’s obviously better when you are getting results and for me to be playing more games with Chris Robertson at centre back.
“You get to know one another’s games and build up an understanding – I think that is starting to happen and if we stay together it will carry on.”
