Myrie-Williams happy to get the win
Jennison Myrie-Williams came back from being left out at Bristol Rovers to prove a point, scoring Vale’s first goal at York on Saturday and setting up the second for Lee Hughes.
The Vale winger was back to his best, tormenting a York defence who struggled to handle him, but typically he was more concerned about the team performance.
He said: “I’m just happy that we won the game, that’s the main thing and everybody is just happy we got the three points.
“The whole club needed a lift. We hadn’t experienced that his season as everything was going well and it was really important that we stuck together and got through it.
“It was good to get an early goal and settle the nerves down a bit and I think once we got that goal we were quite comfortable.
“It came to me just inside the box and my first instinct was to shoot, so I shot low and luckily it went in.
“I think we can just forget about the penalty, but it was a good move for the second goal, a one-two and a good finish by Lee Hughes.
“Winning the game will be the biggest confidence boost for the club. The only way to get confidence back in the squad is to win games of football.
“I would be lying if I said we weren’t getting a bit worried because we had been doing so well and in a good position and we wanted to stay there.
“At the end of the day it is the fans’ club and they have supported the club for years so it is just pleasing to see so many of them.
“We need to get as many points as possible now and get the job done and we need to go out now and get a win on Saturday at home to Aldershot.”
