Boss sure we can turn it around
Vale players enjoyed a day out at the races yesterday with a team bonding session at Cheltenham Festival – paid for by the Chairman, Paul Wildes.
Micky Adams is hoping the exercise will do the players good and relax them a little after a tough few weeks, but says the only problem is one or two of the lads might now be skint!
He said: “It was always planned anyway, regardless of the result at Bristol Rovers. The Chairman kindly dipped into his own pocket and they had a day out at Cheltenham.
“I don’t think any of them won any money, so they could be further depressed, or their wives and girlfriends could, losing games of football and got no money.
“They had a day out yesterday and they were all back out on the training ground today with no ill effects – everybody is raring to go again.
“That’s the beauty of this game at this time of the season, we were disappointing at Bristol on Tuesday but we have the chance to redeem ourselves on Saturday.”
Vale’s recent run of poor form is a mystery to everybody at the club, but Micky feels sure he has the quality in the dressing room to turn it around.
The Vale boss said: “You have to study other teams and other divisions and draw comparisons with other people who are in the same boat as us at the moment.
“I live in Leicestershire and Leicester have won one in seven. Bournemouth won the other night to make it one win in seven. Stoke City have lost three on the bounce and teams go through these periods.
“You know that if you work hard enough and keep believing in what you are doing, you come through the other aside of it.
“It’s not going to be easy, but you don’t give up on it, you keep going. You put your foot down on the pedal and keep going.
“We are taking an enormous amount of criticism, but on the other hand when we were going well we had all of the plaudits, so it evens itself out.
“We have said many times before that you don’t get carried away when you are flying and you certainly don’t dig a hole for yourself when you are losing.
“At this moment in time we are going through one of those patches, but it will turn, I have got no doubt about that. The squad is good enough to turn it around.”
