Micky Adams was pleased to halt the slide last night with a nil-nil draw against a Bradford side he rates highly, but says there are still lessons to be learned.

The Vale boss said: “I think both teams set up not to get beat, we certainly did. We have got to take crumbs of comfort from that – a point and a clean sheet, we have got to start somewhere again against a good Bradford ide.

“I was pleased with the effort and the commitment of the players. We were under pressure to put on a performance and I was pleased with them. I thought to a man they stuck to their task.

“We freshened it up and we’ll let other people decide whether it worked or not. Some changes were enforced and some were not, but in general though we had the better chances in the first half.

“Their ‘keeper made a fantastic save to keep out Tom Pope’s header and how he kept that out I don’t know.

“We went toe to toe against a team who, if they had not had their cup run would have been right up there, that’s for sure.

“They’ve still got a chance, obviously, but it will take some effort now for them to get where they want to go.

“From our point of view, it’s a point on the board, we have arrested the slide and we will go again.

“We had a few chances to win the game. I can remember a deflected shot that was unlucky not to have gone in, in the first half, their ‘keeper made a save and then we have hit the goalkeeper on a couple of occasions in the second half.,

“We will have to learn our lessons, because we gave far too many free kicks away, because you can see how good Bradford are with their free kicks.

“I am slightly disappointed that we gave too many (free kicks) away, but in general we defended okay.”
