FINGERS CROSSED AGAIN

FINGERS CROSSED AGAIN

Hopefully Friday afternoon's game against Cheltenham will go ahead

Mark Grew, along with everybody else at the club, is keeping his fingers crossed Friday’s home game (kick off 3.00pm) doesn’t fall foul of the weather after more snow has been forecast.

Saturday’s home match against Aldershot Town was hit of course and the ground staff have been working hard to remove the snow off the covers so that Friday’s game stands a chance.

The Vale assistant boss said: ”The weather forecast for the next three or four games doesn’t look good, but we can only prepare as though the game is going to go ahead on Friday and we’ll be doing everything to try and get it on.

“We came in on Saturday morning and trained hard, had Sunday off then we gave them a right good session on Monday morning. Luckily Steve Speed managed to get the training ground swept off, so it was a good surface and we got a good day’s training in.

“The problem we have got is the wind factor. The wind is lifting the frost covers up and moving them and if half the pitch is playable and the other half not, that is going to cause us a problem.

“But as I said, we are going to prepare as if the game is on, but if we have to play three games a week because of postponements until the end of the season then we will just have to do it.”

Skipper Doug Loft is back from suspension and is likely to be handed a place in the starting line-up, but another midfielder will be sitting frustrated in the stand.

“Sam Morsy is disappointed that the game was off on Saturday because it means he will have to sit out again, but we have otherwise got a full squad apart from Ashley Vincent.

“When Chris Birchall went out to Trinadad & Tobago on international duty we would have been thin on the ground, but luckily Doug Loft is back and he is an important factor in our team and it will be great to have him back.”
