Defender is hoping Saturday's game against Aldershot will go ahead

John McCombe is expecting bottom of the table Aldershot to put up a fight here at Vale Park on Saturday afternoon, but is still confident Vale can take the spoils.

He said: “It is going to be a tough match. Aldershot went bottom with the results on Tuesday so they are going to be coming here desperate for points.

“Obviously that’s the same with us, we need points too for a different reason, but I feel we can come out on top.

“Aldershot have been playing four-four-two this season so we will have to see how they line up, but whatever formation they put out, we are more than capable of getting the three points.

“In the last seven games we are not bothered how we get the points to go up or how many points we actually need as long as we finish in the top three.

“Gillingham came from behind to get a draw at Rochdale the other night and they are obviously a few points in front of us at the moment.

“But we have seven games left and twenty one points to play for and obviously we want to try and get as many points as we can.”

The weather may yet have a say in whether or not the game here at Vale park goes ahead, with more snow being forecast to fall between now and Saturday afternoon.

The players are all keeping their fingers crossed the game can go ahead as the last thing they want is extra mid-week fixtures thrown in before the end of the season.

The Vale defender is in agreement, saying: “We have got games coming thick and fast, especially over Easter, and we could do with getting Saturday’s game against Aldershot on if we possibly can.”
