Micky adds experience to the squad

Micky Adams has added more experience to his squad with the signing of defender Darren Purse.

The centre-back, 35, has put pen to paper until the end of the season after parting company with Plymouth Arygyle. His contract will officially start on Monday.

He was not eligible for today’s fixture but will go straight into the squad for next Saturday’s away clash against Gillingham.

After starting his career at Leyton Orient, Purse has gone on to make over 450 Football League appearances, including spells at Birmingham City, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Sheffield Wednesday.

“Darren’s experience speaks for itself, both as a player and a leader on the pitch,” said Micky.

“I was keen to add him to the squad after hearing of his availability, especially in light of the injury to John McCombe on New Year’s Day.

“Darren is hungry to make a difference at Port Vale and I have no doubt that will show through his performances on the football field.”
