CHILVERS HOPING TO STAY

Defender would like to extend his contract beyond Saturday

John McCombe’s Medial Ligament injury suffered on New year’s Day against Fleetwood Town look like keeping him out for a while, but Liam Chilvers is hoping it helps keep him at Port Vale.

and at the moment isn’t sure what the future holds, but he would love to stay with the club beyond the home game against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.thThe central defender signed in initially until January 5

He said: “John will be a big miss, he’s played most of the games this season and he is an important part of the team, but it gives Clayton the chance to come in and we will play together as long as we can.

January at the moment, so if it’s just until the next game then that’s what it will be.th“I am here to the 5

“That will be a decision made, I would think, by the management here and they will let me know whether they want to keep me or not.

“Obviously I want stay and I think I have done quite well c=since I have been here and it has been positive for me, but at the end of the day it’s not my decision, it’s down to somebody else.

“Unfortunately performances like the one against Fleetwood don’t help, so that’s bad for me from a personal point of view.

“I would love to stay and I am sure the manager is aware of that. I jumped at the opportunity to come here and whether it is possible to stay depends on whether the manager wants to do it, I’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

“I enjoyed my time when I was here last season and I am enjoying it again. It is a club that is at the right end of the table and compared to last year, the problems the club had, it is club that you want to be at.”
