Volunteers donation to a worth cause

PORTVALE VOLUNTEERS’ GROUP

BATTLE BACK CENTRE

Each year the Volunteers’ Group makes a donation to a chosen charity. In the past donations have been made to the Movember Appeal, the Salvation Army, the Air Ambulance, Dougie Mac, The British Wild Life Trust etc.

This year the chosen charity is the Royal British Legion, specifically for the Battle Back Centre at Lilleshall. Most football fans will associate Lilleshall with the treatment of sporting injuries. The Royal British legion has now committed £27 million to provide and operate the Battle Back Centre to help around 600 wounded, injured and sick Army, Navy and RAF personnel every year.

The Centre was officially opened by Olympic gymnast, Beth Tweddle, at the end of November, although it has already helped over 200 of the armed forces in pilot schemes ran over the last year.

A range of adaptive sports and adventure opportunities are provided, led by world class coaches, provided by Leeds Metropolitan University, and the Centre has residential accommodation for up to 24 people at a time. The focus is on what you can do, not what you can’t. By rebuilding confidence and unlocking potential the Battle Back Centre will help to rebuild the lives of these men and women.

The Volunteers’ Group are pleased to have donated £50 from their funds.

If any fans wish to make donations they can be sent to Chris Joynson at the Battle Back Centre, NSC Lilleshall , Near Newport, Shropshire, TF10 9LT.
