But even more pleased with the three points down at Torquay
Calvin Andrew is more than pleased to get his first goal in a Vale shirt, albeit in an unorthodox manner, but like he says, they all count.
He was more pleased with the three points earned at Plainmoor, a place which he admits is never an easy place to go.
He said: “It was a tough fought game; they gave us as good as they got but we won the game one-nil and took the three points.
“The goal came of me so I am definitely claiming it. A couple of the lads said I didn’t know anything about it, but I saw it coming towards me and opened up my body so it was definitely my goal.
“People have asked me if that was a weight off my shoulders to get my first goal, but it was never an issue considering the circumstances when I came in.
“It was more about fitness, being away from the game for such a long time, it was more about getting fitness, getting my eye back in and getting used to playing again.
“But it is always nice to get a goal, especially your first one, and it was an important one as well.
“You always get critics in football and in any walk of life really but we have silenced them with a very good win and a hard fought win – it was a very difficult game but the goal made the difference.
“We thank the supporters deeply – they gave us great support at Plainmoor, which is a hard place to go, and I thought they were the twelfth man.
