Tomlin to study opposition

Vale striker reveals he analyses games as they are played

Striker Gavin Tomlin isn’t too concerned about the intensity of fixtures coming up over the next couple of weeks and says he will prepare for each game in a similar fashion.

The team are playing well and with confidence and Tomlin sees no reason why Vale can’t come out of the busy Christmas period with points in the bag.

He says: “We are in a good vein of form at the moment and if we can turn performances into points then it would be brilliant for the club and supporters.

“I think all the games coming up in the next couple of weeks are similar I many aspects.

“MK Dons will be a trough game on Saturday. They like to play the ball around but I think that will suite us and give me the opportunity to get on the ball and create for my teammates.

“I think all the games are similar in terms of how the team will approach it so I am just looking forward to playing the games.

“I always tend to concentrate on myself rather than on the other team’s game, I need to work on how myself and my team can affect the opposition.

“We went to Walsall recently and we implemented our game and we will be looking to do the same again.”

Tomlin reveals he goes into each match with his eyes wide open and is prepared to study how the game is going in order to play his game accordingly, rather like a chess master.

He says: “There’s not really enough video evidence for me to watch the opposition players in detail, but during the game I try to analyse their weaknesses as the game is going on, because each game is different.

“If there are certain spaces that I need to be in or certain predicaments where I need to be in a certain position, I try to analyse that during the game as it goes along and try and adapt and improvise.”

So how does he rate Vale’s start to the season?

“We have started well, better than I expected, not because of the quality of the players but because of how difficult this league can be.

“We have come together well I believe and we have still got room for improvement and that is what makes it more pleasing.”
