Defender says the motivation is a place in the third round
Richard Duffy is determined to see the name of Port Vale in the hat for the draw for the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday afternoon.
Like his manager and team mates, he knows Salisbury are not going to come here to Vale Park and lie down and die, they will be giving everything to stake their own claim to a place in the draw for the next round.
But Vale have prepared well this week and have been well prepared for the task that lies ahead of them. They will treat this game just like any other, with a professional approach and pride in the shirt.
Duffy says: “We want to get into the third round and get a chance to play against a big team and we have got a great opportunity to try with a home draw. We have had a good week in training and we are looking forward to it.
“Training today hasn’t been very nice – it’s been very windy and it has been raining, but if it is the same tomorrow night both teams have got to deal with it the best they can.
“The weather might play its part, but if we go out concentrating on the task in front of us and knowing it is not going to be an easy game then we can hopefully get the job done.
“The carrot is dangling for us to get into the third round and we have got a great opportunity to do that
“We know we are in for a tough game. You can’t underestimate any team that is below you, thy have had a good start to the season and they are quite high up in the league.
“They will come here full of confidence, they have nothing to lose, all the pressure is on us, but we have got to go out and perform and get the result and that will put us in the draw.
“It would be nice to get an early goal, but it is not essential. If we don’t score until the ninetieth minute and we win one-nil, I am sure everyone will go home happy.
“The most important thing is getting the win at whatever stage of the came it comes.
“We have had a good run recently and have picked up some nice wins in the last six, seven or eight games.
“The win on Saturday was a big boost for us after the disappointment against Preston on the Tuesday and we are full of confidence.”
