Defender feels Vale can creep under the radar

Defender Daniel Jones is happy with the way the season is going up to now and feels they could well creep under the radar in the second half of the season.

He said: “I think we have gone about it the right way. We let the big hitters in this league get all of the limelight while we go about our stuff quietly but working really hard.

“I think we might be one of those at the end of the season where people won’t expect us and it will almost as if we are not there, but what the lads have done over the last couple of months has been fantastic.

“I would imagine the fans would have snapped people’s hand off to be where we are in the league right now. I think people underestimate what a fit bunch of players we have here.

“We went to Walsall, another team who have shone this season with their footballing ability, but we have shown that if we get in their faces and hit them with the counter attack, because we have enough pace to do that, we can hurt teams.”

Vale take on MK Dons on Saturday at the Stadium MK and Jones feels Vale are quite capable of a positive result at the weekend against a good footballing side.

He said: “We are very strong as a unit as well, which has helped us, so it is all about us going there and stopping them playing and doing what we do well, work hard and our fitness, strengths and counter-football will see us through.

“They are a good side with experienced players, but we have got experience here as well. We have got good centre midfield players in Chris Lines and Anthony Griffith, or whoever the manager wants to put in there.

“I know Stephen Gleeson and Darren Potter very well. They are very good technical footballers, but I wouldn’t say they are the best ability-wise

“What we have got over most teams is we have got good legs all over the pitch and I think that has showed against footballing teams.

“I think we can almost run over teams because they don’t realise what we have got because other teams have big name players.

“We are going about our stuff in the right way – we are working hard and it is showing at the moment.”
