Gaffer pleased with the result, if not the performance

Micky Adams was more than happy to be through to the third round of the FA Cup following the 4-1 win against Salisbury City on Friday night.

While he agreed that Vale were perhaps not at their best throughout the game, he was pleased to do a professional job to assure a place in the hat for the next round.

He said: “I am delighted to be in the third round, delighted with the win and disappointed with the performance, but you can’t have everything.

“I thought we were lethargic, I thought we were slow in the first half especially, the crowd were flat, we were flat.

“I think the crowd were flat because We had done nothing to entertain them and we didn’t get them of their seats, but I though the last twenty minutes were more like it.

“You want everything as manager – you want to play well and you want to get the result, but if you look at the recent history of Port Vale, it has been littered with disasters against non-league clubs.

“We have faced two so far this season and we have shown a professionalism and a will to not get beaten.

“Fair play to Salisbury – they came out and gave it a real go at the start of the second half, but you expect that because there’s no point in losing a game tamely one-nil to a league club, you might as well have a go and they did that.

“They got their equaliser, we looked a bit dodgy, but in the last twenty minutes we exploited a few gaps and luckily for us got the goals when we needed them.”
