Grew praises whole team

Best performance of the season so far

Mark Grew praised the whole team after they performed so well against Walsall on Saturday to finally bring home the three points from a place that has been far from a happy hunting ground.

Vale’s Assistant manager says it was one of Vale’s best performances of the season so far and has proved a few doubters amongst the bookmakers wrong.

He said: “It is nice to go to Walsall and get a win, because everybody told us last week it has been a long time since we won there, but obviously that one has gone out of the window now.

“I thought the team performance and work rate was outstanding on Saturday. People were trying to pick out individual players, but I thought overall it was a great team performanc3e.

“After the disappointment of Tuesday night they wanted to get that out of their system, because there were a lot of players that felt they let the side down, but they put it right on Saturday.

“We had a little bit of a poor result and a poor performance, but on Saturday at Walsall it was outstanding.

“It was important to get the three points and we are on 29 points now and that was before the start of December, so that is an achievement.

“But we were just pleased to get the poor performance against Preston out of the way and produce what I thought was a quite outstanding performance.

“For me it was our best performance of the season, because over the past few years we haven’t been able to win at Walsall in the league.

“I have watched Walsall in their last two home games, against Shrewsbury and Peterborough and they are a good side.

“They were undefeated for some time, they went to Sheffield United and played really well, so to go there and get three points was a great achievement.

“As I have said over the last few weeks, to get into the top half of the table shows what a good dressing room we have got and the quality we have got here.

“Everybody thought we would struggle when we came up – the bookies probably all put us in the bottom ten and we have proved we have carried on from last season and we are a force to be reckoned with.”
