Adams happy with peformance

Micky Adams was thrilled with the performance and the result following the defeat of Rotherham United, a win which saw the Valiants moved into seventh spot in the table, just two points behind the Millers.

The Vale boss said: “Fantastic, I couldn’t have wished for any better, I thought it was a terrific performance and I thought our energy levels were a different class, the way we stopped them playing, particularly in the first half.

“We set out with a game plan – they have got some decent players and I thought that we could stifle them with maybe having three in midfield.

“I thought the boy Pringle in particular would be a problem, but we wanted Tomlin and Dodds to join Popey as much as they could.

“We started the game really well and got in a few times with either Loft or Dodds or Tomlin and Doddsy scored a great goal.

“You would have to say we were slightly fortunate to keep a clean sheet and there were no complaints about the penalty, I thought there was some poor defending leading up to it.

“Sam pulled off a great save and then we wanted to keep a clean sheet. At half time there were two things – you get nothing for a forty-five minute performance, you have got to out there again and perform, and also, keep your discipline – we kept ours and they lost theirs.

“The way the game was panning out and the way it was being refereed, we had a couple of bookings obviously and we talked about discipline at half time but I think our key was that our discipline was good, although we had a couple of players booked.

“I was disappointed with Griff, he will be suspended, but you have seen what we can do. We bring people into the side and it gives them an opportunity and they stick their chests out and that’s the beauty of my squad.”
