Performance not the best says Adams but happy with the points

Micky Adams admitted that the performance against Notts County left something to be desired at times, but says he was delighted with the result.

Vale put behind them the disappointment of the defeat at MK Dons in their previous game and can now look forward to the battle with Rotherham on Sunday.

The Vale boss said: “Performance-wise it wasn’t one of our better ones, but we had enough chances in the second half really to have made it comfortable, but their ‘keeper pulled off three great saves and I am delighted with the win.

“I have talked about the character in the dressing room many times, but I think I have got an honest bunch.

“They know they under-performed at MK Dons, we can’t get that game back, we can’t keep apologising for it, but what we can do is go out in the next game and try and put things right.

“Count passed the ball around at times and their shape caught us out a few times but generally we got to grips with it in the second half and we won the game, so I am delighted.

“I am bound to say the two penalties were stonewall. Shaun will probably have a different view of things but I thought we could have had another one in the first half with Lee Hughes’ header.

“I think that was another penalty decision that the referee perhaps got wrong but he has given two and he has given them honestly and I have got no complaints about either of them.

“Jennison Myrie-Williams practises penalties, as does Gavin Tomlin and I was pleased for Gavin because I thought he was outstanding, particularly in the second half.

“He got his goal and it’s all about confidence – the game is all about confidence whether you are passing a ball or having that belief in yourself.

“At times we wrestle with our confidence, but it is a long, long season and you are going to have your peaks and troughs.

“At the moment I feel as though I have got a few players in the dressing room that are slightly struggling with their own game at the moment, but we have come through it and we are delighted with it.”
