"Pleasing Performance" says Grew

Grew happy with the response given by the team on Saturday

Mark Grew was pleased to see the lads pick up their first win of the season on Saturday. But it was the performance which pleased him most.

After being criticised following a below performance at Colchester the previous weekend, the lads responded well and in the end got their just rewards.

Grew said: “We have drawn one and won one now out of three league games, and if anybody had said that to us before the start of the season we would probably have taken it.

“More pleasing was the performance, coming off the back of a poor performance the lads gave everything they had got and I think the score flattered Bradford a bit.

“Phil (Parkinson) said in this morning’s paper they had the best chances, but I couldn’t see that personally.

“We should have been three or four up at half time, Tom Pope missed a couple and their keeper made a great save, so for me we were far the better side in the first half and the game should have been dead and buried.

“You always try to win matches, but it is a tougher league and we are quite happy – we are twelfth in the league and I think that win will breed confidence now.

“We have had two home league fixtures and we have played well in both games. In the second half against Brentford we got away with one or two things.

“Overall we were pleased with the performance against a strong side and again against Bradford, who I think will be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

“We felt going into the Bradford game that the onus was on us to attack them And get balls into the box, so we brought in Kaid Mohamed and Jennison Myrie –Williams and we got better crosses into the box.

“We created chances and that is what we set out to do at the beginning of last week, to get more balls into the box and create chances, and that worked.

“The lads learned last Monday that when you don’t play well and you don’t give everything they will be put through their paces on a Monday morning.

“That was the last thing Micky said to them before they went out on Saturday, ‘remember last Monday morning’ and there was a few smiles on their faces.

“They showed a lot of character by working hard throughout the week and put a performance on in front of our home fan and I am sure they fully enjoyed the game.”
