Grew looking forward to Saturday's game

Vale Assistant Manager supported Wolves as a boy and is looking forward to Saturday’s game more than most and he knows Vale face a big test this weekend.

He said: “We went to Wolves on Friday night, myself and the gaffer, they won two-one and everybody said they were fortunate, which they were.

“But you will look at that result in a couple of months time and it says a two-one win.

“They got another three points on the board and that is what they wanted. They know they can play better than that.

“We know they can play better than that and they have still got quality players in there who can produce on the day.”

One such player is Kevin Doyle, who has experience at both Premier League and at international level – he is a player Grew admires.

He said: “He set the first goal up on Friday and he seems to cover every blade of grass and probably does too much outside the box and that’s why he isn’t getting the goals that he wants.

“He’s a handful for anybody and he’s a credit. He has worked his socks off in every game I’ve seen him play in last season and he gives one hundred and ten percent and he is a quality player.

“They have also go the likes of Bjorn Sigudarson and Leigh Griffiths who can score goals and Bakary Sako looks a threat from set pieces and when he runs at you. We know we have got a tough game on Saturday but what a game.”

Although Wolves were Grew’s team as a lad, there will be no sentiment on Saturday afternoon – Vale will be going flat out for a win, although he, like everybody else, is looking forward to the atmosphere created by the fans.

He says: “I followed them home and away as a kid and they have always been the same, whether they are at the top of the league or the bottom, they stand by their team and support them.

“As soon as they beat Crawley on Friday night, we knew it was going to be a sell-out in their end and the atmosphere is what you want.

“I remember playing against them at Molinuex and here at Vale Park and they are something to remember.

“We haven’t done anything different this week, we have prepared just like we do week in week out, but we know it is a big game in the sense that it is going to be a good atmosphere and a big crowd.”
