Grew confident Pope will break his duck soon

After finishing the top goal scorer in the whole of football last season, Tom Pope hasn’t yet hit the back of the net this season and he will be looking to break his duck on Saturday afternoon against Wolves.

Vale’s Assistant Manager Mark Grew is surprised he hasn’t notched before now, but believes it is only a matter of time before the man from Sneyd Green is on the goal trail again.

Grew says: “If you ask Tom he should probably have three goals on the board now, because he has missed two against Bradford that he was disappointed with and he missed the header on Saturday.

“Although he is being marked tight, he has had three really good gilt-edged chances in the last couple of games and he hasn’t taken them and that becomes a problem the longer it goes on.

“In the first couple of games of the season he didn’t get a chance, now he is getting chances and missing them, so next we hope he starts scoring them.

“He doesn’t show anything but he is probably feeling it inside and like every forward, you need to get that first one on the board and then things roll along.

“It doesn’t matter how you score, whether it be from twenty-five yards or you score from two yards, they all count as one goal, so at this present time we are not bothered how he scores, as long as he is scoring.
