Boss can look back at the season with pride

Micky Adams reflected back on the season earlier today, after managing a to sleep soundly for the first time in a long while.

He said: “We got the result we required on Saturday and it was their first day back on Thursday morning, so they have had a bit of time to reflect on what they have done and recharged their batteries, and we are ready to go again at Wycombe.

“I have had a couple of great night’s sleep. It is a relief, however we got there I wasn’t really that bothered, just getting those points until we actually got over the line.

“Sometimes that last bit is the hardest, but you don’t tell the players that. Deep down inside I was thinking that we have got some tough games coming up and I would like to see it done before Wycombe.

“I am relieved we are not going down to Wycombe needing anything other than not to concede twenty eight goals, so I am very, very pleased and delighted for everybody.

“My players are League One footballers now and I am a League One manager and it feels great.”

Reflecting on what he describes as ‘failures’ about his second spell with Brighton and his short spell at boyhood club Sheffield United, Micky still believes he goes about things in the correct way and has total belief in his ability as a manager.

He said: “I have had time here to get things right and I think my methods work. People can say and write whatever they want, but inside I know I am still a decent manager.

“I always look back at my playing career and look at the managers that I played for and their methods and how they got the best out of me.

“The one thing I have always stated is you need a mental strength and that mental strength a lot of the time comes through the manager.

“Every morning you look at him and ask what kind of mood he is in. What is he saying? Do I believe what he is saying? Do I believe in the work that he is doing?

“This is a culmination of a lot of hard work by both myself and by my staff and we can take great prised in the fact that we have taken a group of players who had all the excuses in the world to fail and never uses them.

“They have shown remarkable resilience and strength of character and strong mentality to get us over the line.”
