But the gaffer will not we taking anything for granted
Micky Adams was understandably pleased with the performance against Fleetwood Town last night and in particular, Vale’s attacking play.
He said: “It was everything that we wanted. We didn’t expect it and we had to work hard for it because they are a good side.
“At certain stages in the game I didn’t feel all that comfortable, but we scored some excellent goal. We looked like we could cause them a problem every time we went forward.
“I think they are a good side and I can see why they have done so well, but it was our attacking play more than our defending that got us through.
“It was a game between two teams that are in form and we have come out on top. I don’t take that lightly.
“Fleetwood are a good side and if we are there or thereabouts around them come the end of the season then I think we will both enjoy good seasons.
“It is hard to nit-pick, but we need to tighten up defensively, set-piece wise, and if we do that we will be a force.
Tom Pope netted his seventh and eighth goals of the season, but the manager warned he mustn’t become complacent and has to keep working as hard as ever.
“He can’t take his foot off the pedal. He needs to prepare for games as best he can in the correct manner and if he does that and we do the right things on the pitch in the right areas, then he will score goals.
“Louis Dodds’ second goal was special, but I have seen him do that before. He has that ability and he’s a confident boy at the moment.”
Micky also spoke of the support at the Highbury Stadium where once again, Vale fans made some terrific noise and got behind the lads right from the kick off.
He said: “The fans were terrific, they gave us great support. It’s a shame we couldn’t come here on a Saturday because there would have been even more of them, but the support they gave us was perfect.
