Mark Grew says that players who perform for the reserves at Morecambe on tonight night have the chance to force their way into the reckoning for Saturday’s match against Bradford City.

Places may well be up for grabs following Saturday’s home defeat to Gillingham and all of the squad need to convince Micky Adams they are worthy of a starting place.

He said: “After the game against Gillingham Micky told the players that the door is wide open now. He has always been one to keep the same eleven if they are doing well and after the game he told them they had left the stable door open.

“There are other people champing at the bit and those lads who play at Morecambe for the reserves on Wednesday night have got to show us that they are ready.

“The other ones who played on Saturday have got to put an extra shift in this week in training to show they are worthy of their place.

“We have had a strong reserve team all this season and it won’t be any different this week. They need to keep their fitness levels up and we will be as strong as we can.”

“We had Bradford watched against Oxford on Saturday and they performed very well. They are on a bit of a high as well.

“It is another game where we have go to try and get three points and we have done well at Bradford in the last couple of years, so there’s nothing to be scared of.

Bradford have had a fantastic start to the season and came back from the jaws of defeat against Burton Albion last night to win the game in extra time.

We seem to say it every year, but with the good start they have had, this season really could be the one when Bradford finally start to v=bounce back.

Grew said: “We have probably said it for the last three or four years. We expect Bradford to be up there challenging for a play-off spot and it has never happened.

“They have had poor starts for the last few seasons, but this season they have looked strong every time we have watched them play.

“I think Phil Parkinson has got it right this year. He has probably got the players he wants into the system he is setting out.

“We are expecting a tough game. It is never an easy game at Bradford. Over the last few years we have won there but we’ve had to play well to win, so we are expecting another tough game on Saturday.”
