npower League 2 Manager and Player of the Month
Port Vale are celebrating a double reward for a great September as Football League sponsors nPower are proud to reveal the prizes for both the nPower League 2 Manager and Player of the Month Awards are heading to Vale Park.
The Valiants still trail league pace-setters Gillingham, but with 13 points from a possible 18 in September, Micky Adams has won the Manager of the Month award for ensuring his side stay within touching distance of The Gills at the top of the league. In doing so, Port Vale scored 18 goals this month, giving a clear indication of the attacking brand of football that Micky has instilled.
Looking at September’s goal scoring charts shows that no other player has benefitted more from this approach than towering striker Tom Pope. With seven goals, including four against his former club Rotherham United, Pope has proven himself to be a clinical forward and has fired himself to the top of the nPower League 2 top scorers table.
The two awards are determined by two separate expert panels. The Manager of the Month award is decided by former Charlton Athletic manager Alan Curbishley, Football League Chief Operating Officer Andy Williamson, League Managers Association Deputy CEO Olaf Dixon and nPower Sponsorship Manager Emma Collins. The Player of the Month panel sees Emma Collins joined by Wolves legend Don Goodman, BBC Sport’s Mark Clemmit and The Football League’s Head of Communications, John Nagle.
Speaking about Micky Adams’ win, panel member Alan Curbishley commented;
“Micky’s side have certainly impressed so far this season and recording 18 goals in just 6 games in September alone, make this award truly deserving for Port Vale. They still trail Gillingham in the league, but if they can maintain this form, they’ll certainly be challenging for the title come the end of the season.”
Commenting from nPower, Sponsorship Manager Emma Collins added;
“Micky and Port Vale have treated their fans to a lot of goals this September and I’m sure they’ll be hopeful of more to come.
“Having a striker scoring goals is key to any side and with Tom Pope, Port Vale currently have the most prolific forward in the league. He’s had a couple of sensational individual performances, especially when putting four past Rotherham United and is clearly a deserved winner.”
