Staff and fans at the Vale have taken on the hairy challenge as have several players, including Louis Dodds and Chris Neal who have also dedicated their top lips to changing the face of men’s health. Port Vale’s support for Movember coincides with a year-long programme of activity in support of Prostate Cancer UK, which is The Football League’s Official Charity Partner for Season 2012/13. One in nine men will get prostate cancer in the UK. Money raised will help more men survive the disease and have a better quality of life.
Bill Lodey, Club Secretary at Port Vale said: “Port vale Football Club is thrilled to be indulging in some top lip topiary for second year running in support of Movember, and its work with Prostate Cancer UK to fight the most common cancer in men.
“We are now over half way through the month and there are some very interesting top lip specimens emerging all over the club. We’d really encourage all fans to back these hairy ranks and help us raise as much as possible for Movember.
“Movember’s a brilliant initiative to raise awareness of prostate cancer amongst our players, staff and supporters alike. With 250,000 men living with prostate cancer in the UK – enough to fill Wembley Stadium three times over – there is a real need to support those affected by the disease now and invest in research for the future.”
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, added: “Each year we see more and more men dedicate their top lips to Movember and we’re delighted that players and staff at Port Vale are part of thisgrowing movement. More than £15 million raised by Mo Bros and Mo Sistas across the UK last year came directly to Prostate Cancer UK to help us fund a wide range of medical research projects.”
Football League staff will also be joining in the fund raising effort and its Head of Communications, John Nagle said: "This is a great opportunity for supporters to make a real difference in the fight against prostate cancer. I look forward to seeing the stands continuing to fill up with more and more mo's for the rest of the month."
