Clayton looking to add a few more goals

Defender Clayton McDonald praised Ben Williamson after the striker had come off the bench to score the winning goal in Saturday’s hard fought FA Cup tie against Forest Green.

Williamson came off the bench to score for the third time in a row and McDonald says it is no more than he deserves.

“It was a tough game. Forest Green are a good outfit, but we manages to grind out a result. We just wanted to be in the hat for the second round.” said McDonald.

“We switched off and we gave away two sloppy goals, which shouldn’t happen, but it did happen . Forest green gave us a good game, but we managed to dig in.

and he doesn’t get his head down when he is not starting, so credit to the lad.” “Ben Williamson came off the bench to get the winner. He is a good lad who always comes on and gives one hundred per cent

The game saw McDonald and Joe Davis play together in the heart of the Vale defence for the first time, and the former Walsall man. Who scored one and cleared one off the line was pleased with how things went.

He said: “I thought we played okay. There were some parts where there was a bit of miscommunication, but that happens sometimes because they were playing three up front and there was more movement from the front three, but I thought we coped quite well.

“That was my first goal in Vale colours, so I was buzzing. I am just trying to pay back the fans for their support in the past and also pay back the manager.

“I am just trying to pay back their support with good performances on the park and hopefully that goal is the first of many – hopefully I can catch Popey up!”
