Boss looking forward to challenge at Roots Hall

Micky Adams is looking forward to Saturday’s match at Roots Hall, despite having selection problems imposed on him by the injury and suspension situation at the club.

“Southend were a good side last season but they have had a bit of turmoil at their football club in terms of finances, but once again Paul Sturrock has managed to put together a competitive side. He said:

“They are obviously not as strong as they were last season because they have lost a lot of players, but they have still got match winners. 

“They have still got the same back four that took them to the heights last season and they are evolving up front.

“Whether they have got the sort of strike force that they had last season I don’t know, I haven’t really seen them this year.

“But they went down to Bristol Rovers and won in midweek and deservedly won, so they will be full of confidence and we expect nothing other than a tough game.

“Paul has got a fantastic record, particularly at this level, in putting teams together to be competitive and we expect nothing other than for it to be a tough competitive game. 

“We went down there last season and really got turned over. They were a good side at that particular time.

“Liam Dickinson caused absolute carnage that day and I am glad he is not playing this week.

“We are a different side now and I want to take all of the positives I can out of Tuesday night because we looked fantastic going forward on Tuesday.

“We really did look a unit and that’s a massive disappointment not to get the other two points.

“We don’t fear anybody. Our best way of getting results at the moment is to go for it, so we will go for it again on Saturday. We will go with two wingers, two up top and we’ll go again.”
