WINDOW WAITING GAME

Vale may or may not bring in players in in January

Assistant boss Mark Grew admitted the point earned at Cheltenham was an important one and added Vale won’t necessarily be bringing in new players in the January window.

Should the manager feel it necessary, then he will have the option of bringing in fresh faces, but it is important not to upset the dressing room after the start we have had to the season.

“It match at Cheltenham was a big game for both teams because psychologically if they had jumped above us the lads would start looking at that, but who knows how vital it will be at the end of the season?

“Every point we pick up is important and we all know that Christmas period is going to be a vital one for us and after the next four or five games we play it could answer a few questions.

“When we get to the middle of January we should have a good inkling of whether we are a top three side or a maybe a top seven side.

“We know we can bring in players in January should we need to, but the lads who have been in since the start of the season have done a tremendous job for us, but if we can keep them al fit and we get good results we won’t need anybody else.

“On saying that, we know there is money there available to us should we need to bring in loans or signings and that is nice to have in the back of your mind.

It is important that we don’t disrupt what we have already got. When we were in admin and we only had a small squad everybody worked their socks off to get us into the top two and to overlook those players now would be wrong.

“On the other hand it might be a period where we start losing form and then we would have to look at the situation.

“We are very fortunate in that the gaffer has brought George Foster on board and his knowledge of the game is magnificent.

He is out every night of the week and on Saturdays and he has compiled a list of players. We would be silly not to make a list.

“Obviously we would have to go to other clubs and see if those players were available. There is a list of players there waiting for us, but hopefully we won’t have to use it.”

“After going behind at Cheltenham on Saturday I started to wonder how they would react, and straight away we upped the tempo and we worked hard for the equaliser. We were a bit fortunate towards the end, but I think we worked hard for that."
