Darren Moore’s Valiants continued their pre-season preparations as they took on Championship side, Coventry City, in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the Loughborough University Stadium.
City had the chance to take the lead in the third minute as a dangerous low cross came in from the right only to be blazed high over Amos’ bar from inside the area.
Just four minutes later, Vale had a chance of their own as Ben Garrity played on from a good advantage from the referee, and set up a chance for Stockley, but his goal-bound effort was well blocked from close range.
In the fourteenth minute, Ellis Simms capitalised on a loose ball to race through on goal and give City the lead, side-footing the ball into Amos’ bottom left-hand corner.
Darren Moore’s side were left wondering how they hadn’t equalised as a cross from Sang picked out Shorrock at the back post who then hit the post with successive efforts before the Coventry defence cleared the ball.
Amos was called into action in the latter stages of the first half as a good cross-field ball found the Coventry wide man, who cut inside only to fire his effort straight at the Vale keeper.
Half Time: Coventry City 1-0 Port Vale
The Sky Blues started the second half brightly and forged an early chance as a cross came in from the right-hand side and was headed back across goal before a solid save from Amos denied the resulting close-range effort.
Coventry doubled their lead as we reached the midway point of the second half as a low cutback from the left was fired past Amos in the Vale goal from six yards out.
City put the game beyond all doubt in the late stages of the game as a lovely clipped ball over the top of the Vale defence was brought down and smashed into Amos’ top left-hand corner.
