Port Vale secured an away point with a goalless draw against Bromley at Hayes Lane, but should have claimed all three late on, only for Jayden Stockley's header - which had crossed the line - not to be given.
Connor Ripley had made a string of excellent saves to keep the scores level before the major talking point on 85 minutes, with a draw keeping the Valiants second in the Sky Bet League Two table.
Ahead of the game, Darren Moore made four changes to the side that faced Walsall, with Ben Heneghan, Kyle John, Antwoine Hackford and Stockley all coming into the starting line-up.
It was the hosts who fashioned the game’s first opportunity with two minutes on the clock, as top scorer Michael Cheek ran onto a through ball and into the Vale area before shooting across goal and wide.
At the other end, Stockley’s goal-bound volley deflected over the bar for a corner, before another close call on 19 minutes as Bromley’s Danny Imray got in down the right-hand side before firing wide.
Vale were then forced into a change mid-way through the first half, with Sam Hart off through injury and replaced by Brandon Cover.
The Valiants had Ripley to thank for keeping the scores level with the half-hour mark approaching, as Imray teed up Cheek, whose flick towards goal was stopped excellently by the Vale keeper.
And with half-time looming, Ripley came up with an even better save to deny Cheek for a second time, sticking out an arm to deflect the striker’s close-range header behind and ensure a goalless score-line at the break.
The boss made one change at the interval, with Rico Richards on in place of Curtis.
Imray forced Ripley into further action on 52 minutes with a swerving shot from 20 yards, and Vale’s number one was up quickly and bravely to claim the rebound from in front of Cheek.
Vale then had a fantastic chance to take the lead when Richards broke away and played in Hackford, but this time it was the Valiants denied by a standout save. From the resulting corner, Stockley’s header - agonisingly - came back off the base of the post.
With Moore’s men sensing an opener, Ruari Paton was introduced in place of Hackford and was involved immediately, as his shot deflected into the area and was almost scrambled home.
Bromley’s threat remained, however, and Ripley came to Vale’s rescue again with 23 minutes to go, getting down to stop Cameron Congreve’s close-range effort, after he had been played in by Cheek.
Substitute Richards brought Vale forward again on 74 minutes, driving at the Bromley defence, before firing narrowly wide.
The second half's key moment came with five minutes remaining, as Richards went through and saw a goal-bound effort cleared as far as Stockley, whose header crossed the line but the officials waved play on.
And that's how it stayed, with both sides picking up a point in Greater London, thanks to one last piece of brilliance from Ripley at the death.
