The Valiants cruise to victory after braces from Macy Isherwood and Elissa Dockerty and a first-ever club goal from Cassie Davies.
It was an aggressive start from the Valiants in the opening 16 minutes as they peppered the Walsall goal with shots but were unable to convert.
Cassie Davies’ opportunity in the 17th minute almost saw the Vale take a well-deserved lead as the ball was played across the face of goal by Olivia Grocott and Davies arrived at the back post but was unable to steer the ball on target.
Two minutes later, Davies found the opener after her left-footed curled effort from the left corner of the 18-yard box had the Walsall keeper rooted as it flew into the far corner of the goal, and she celebrated her first-ever goal for the club.
In the 26th minute, captain Sian McHugh looked to double the lead after the ball rebounded back out to her 15 yards out from goal and her first time volley forced the keeper to tip it over the bar.
A second goal came about in the 30th minute after McHugh’s ball over the top of the Walsall defence found Grocott, who was pushed wide but could cross the ball and find the oncoming Isherwood to tap it home.
The Vale got their third two minutes later after Mollie Prime’s defence splitting through ball along the ground found Isherwood who had only the keeper to beat which she did in a composed fashion.
Walsall looked to get one back on the Valiants before the break when in the 41st minute their striker was played through, however, defender Jess Smith tracked her all the way and stopped them from advancing after a great sliding tackle.
The half came to a close with the Vale three goals ahead and defending well, allowing only half chances to Walsall.
The first seven minutes of the second half started cagey with both sides struggling to stamp their authority on the game.
That changed in the 53rd minute when substitute Elissa Dockerty added her name to the scoresheet after outmuscling the Walsall defender and placing the ball into the far right-hand corner of the Walsall goal.
Little action followed until the 81st minute when Isherwood managed to keep the ball in play at the right byline and poke it through to Amelia Whitehouse who with a defender on her back allowed the ball to roll across her body before swivelling and curling it into the top left-hand corner.
There was a consultation for Walsall in the 90th minute after an amazing volley from 40 yards out caught keeper Connie Watts off guard and sailed over into the back of the net.
The Valiants finished the match off in style with an instant response from Walsall’s goal after two minutes from the restart when Dockerty charged down the left flank evading challenges from Walsall players and had the finish at the end slotting it passed the keeper solidifying the Vale’s flying start to the season.
