We can confirm that a training compensation agreement has been reached and the transfer of Freddie Lawrie’s registration to Aston Villa has been completed.
The Under-15s central midfielder caught the eye of a number of clubs over the summer but will continue his development at Aston Villa.
Lawrie becomes the second Port Vale Academy player this season to join a Premier League club following Michael Mills’ move to Newcastle United in August.
Speaking to us about his time at Port Vale the youngster said:
“I’ve really enjoyed my time here and I think I’ve improved a lot.
"It’s thanks to Danny Lloyd and the other coaching staff that I’ve had the opportunities I have, they have given me the chance to play the games and also play up an age group, and because of that I’ve now got this chance.”
Vale’s Head of Academy, Will Ryder said:
“This is an unbelievable opportunity for Freddie, he is now going to get the opportunity to go to a category one club and be in and around an Premier League environment as he continues his development.
“We’re extremely proud of Freddie and the way he has handled this whole process and has shown patience and professionalism beyond his years whilst we have been working through the correct protocols with the Premier League to ensure this move his successful for him.
“I’d like to thank Aston Villa, specifically Steve Hopcroft and Mark Harrison who made the conversations honest, open and transparent which meant it was all done in a positive manner which means a fair agreement for both clubs was reached.
“Freddie is another prime example of seeing their hard work and dedication on and off the pitch pay off and we’re extremely proud of the time we have spent with him to help him and further his development.
“The staff that have worked with him should also have a sense of pride and their involvement shouldn’t be understated, they work tirelessly week in, week out and they’re seeing the results of that hard work come to fruition, not just with Freddie but with players across our age groups.
“We’d like to wish Freddie all of the best with this move and we will be keeping an eye on his development over the years”
