- Port Vale captain speaks to the press following his side’s 2-0 defeat to Peterborough United at Vale Park
- Pett: “We know in this league there won’t be loads of chances when you play good teams and we need to be putting the ball in the back of the net. We didn’t have loads of chances ourselves and they showed a little bit of quality with the two chances that they put in the back of the net.”
Port Vale captain Tom Pett spoke of the dressing room’s frustration after Darrell Clarke’s side failed to build on a run of three consecutive home League One victories on Monday night.
Ephron Mason-Clark scored two second half goals for the visitors after a close first half could have gone either way.
“I think first-half was a tight affair,” Pett said. “Mal [Benning] had a chance that he wants to be putting in the back of the net but we got in at half-time, 0-0, and it was game on. We came out second-half, they sorted a few things with their press and they got the goal and killed us a little bit when they got another one.

“It is a frustrating night, that is what I would sum it up as. It was very disappointing but we are in tomorrow, we will put it to bed and move on to Saturday.”
Pett also put the defeat in perspective but explained that the dressing room is determined to keep improving.
“12 months ago, we would have bitten your hand off to be in this place, but as you know – and all of the lads know – the gaffer is not going to stand still and applaud us on that, we all want to keep progressing,” he explained. “Yes, we are happy with where we are, but we all want to keep improving and keep climbing this table.
“We are disappointed that we haven’t come away with something from the game and that shows how far we have come, but we want to move on to Saturday and put it to bed. We have bounced back really well this season and last season and I am sure we will do it again.”
