Port Vale defender Nathan Smith has won the club’s Reels in Motion Player of the Month award for December.
As voted for by Vale supporters, Smith won the award ahead of fellow nominees Dan Jones, Ben Garrity and Gavin Massey.
He featured in all five of the Vale’s December matches, helping Darrell Clarke’s side to two clean sheets in the month. The Madeley-based defender played his part as the Vale prevented Plymouth Argyle from scoring for only the second time in 26 games in all competitions to kick off the festive period in style. The Vale’s Academy product is approaching 300 league appearances for the club and remains a key part of Clarke’s backline.
Speaking after receiving the award, Smith said:
“It is always nice to win personal accolades; I haven’t had one for a little while now so I suppose it’s the cherry on top of how well the team is doing. It gives me confidence that I am doing well, but I just want to keep kicking on.
