Forward disappointed to exit the Emirates FA Cup following 3-2 defeat to Exeter City.
- Dennis Politic | “We are very disappointed because we had enough chances to put the game to bed”
- Forward scores his fourth goal of the season but Port Vale exit the Emirates FA Cup at the First Round stage
- Politic: “I think the goal just before half-time that they scored was important and second half we didn’t get going, it was a scruffy game and obviously they had good players that made a difference in the end.”
Port Vale forward Dennis Politic said the Vale had the chances to beat Exeter City in the First Round of the Emirates FA Cup, though their profligacy in front of goal was costly as the visitors won 3-2 at Vale Park on Saturday afternoon.
Reflecting post-match, Politic said:
“It was [frustrating] to not qualify for the next round; we are very disappointed and I felt first half we were all over them and dominated the game.
“We had enough chances to put the game to bed and we have to learn from that and move on.
“I think the goal just before half-time that they scored was important and second half we didn’t get going, it was a scruffy game and obviously they had good players that made a difference in the end.”
Politic’s fourth goal of the season came in his first start in three weeks and the forward says squad competition is driving the high standards that dropped for 30 minutes and were punished by the Grecians.
“I try and do my best every time I step on the pitch,” he added. “Whether that is starting or coming on; I am delighted to get the goal but I am disappointed we didn’t get through. The goal could have meant a lot more than it does right now.
“We have got a big squad, good players, there is rotation and whenever we step onto the pitch, whether it is me, Butts [Danny Butterworth], Gav [Gavin Massey], Mipo [Odubeko] or anyone, we have to do our best.
“I try to show my best in training, we all try to work hard and the most important thing is to help the team with where we want to go this season.”
