Walsall manager Michael Flynn was appointed in early February this year after previous manager Matthew Taylor was sacked after a run of seven losses. Flynn previously guided Newport County to two play-off finals in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
Man with the Armband
31-year-old Joss Labadie joined the Saddlers in June 2021 and was appointed the Saddlers’ captain by then manager Matthew Taylor. Labadie began his career at West Bromwich Albion and was loaned out to multiple clubs including Shrewsbury Town, Cheltenham Town and Tranmere Rovers over the span of two years.
After being released by the Baggies, Labadie played for various clubs most prominently featuring for Tranmere Rovers and Newport County. After his contract with the Exiles expired, Labadie signed Walsall on a two-year contract.
Star Man
23-year-old forward George Miller started his career at Bury and made permanent moves to Middlesbrough in 2017 and Barnsley in 2019, who are still his parent club. Miller was loaned out to Walsall at the start of the season from the EFL Championship side.
The Englishman is the club’s top-scorer with 11 goals and one assist to his name.
Last time out and recent form
The Saddlers have won just one of their last five games, losing four including their most recent 1-0 defeat against Crawley Town.
Their sole victory came against Carlisle United, a 1-0 win courtesy of a goal from Jack Earing, who scored his fourth of the season.
