In the wake of our recent fixture cancellations and with the team set to return to action tomorrow, manager Darrell Clarke had this message for the Port Vale’s loyal supporters…
Valiants! It’s been a frustrating period recently, with the amount of games we’ve had cancelled. It’s been frustrating for myself and for everyone else in our dressing room.
I understand also how frustrating it will have been for all of you, our supporters. Like yourselves, we as players and staff all enjoy our festive football and to have not had that opportunity to play any games has been really disappointing.
The amount of players we had missing due to Covid was a challenge and it’s always difficult to deal with when you’re not 100 per cent sure what is happening but, as a team, we adapted well to the obstacles that were placed in front of us.
We had Covid within the players and staff so we ensured those who had to self-isolated and we made sure that everyone was doing everything properly and professionally.
These circumstances have also allowed for one or two of the lads to get their fitness levels up and one or two to return from injury.
The good news is that, as of now, we currently have nobody who is in isolation and nobody with Covid-19. We were actually ready and prepared for the Rochdale game, which was unfortunately called off, and now we’re certainly ready for our New Year’s Day fixture against Harrogate Town.
Our attention has constantly been on the next game and we are all really looking forward to getting back on the pitch and in front of all the fans.
I just want to thank you all for the tremendous support I’ve had at the football club this year and I hope you all have a very successful 2022. Myself, my staff and my players will be doing everything we possibly can to try to make it a successful year.
Ever since I’ve been in the football club, you can see the passion and drive for the club from everyone. I’m privileged to be here managing for fantastic owners and fantastic supporters so hopefully everybody enjoys their New Year’s period.
We’ll be staying in a hotel, getting ready professionally for tomorrow’s game to ensure that we prep right, and hopefully start the New Year with a bang.
