Port Vale Football Club can now officially unveil the signing of Harry McKirdy, who has joined the Valiants on a one-year deal subject to EFL clearance.
The attacker praised for his versatility finished as Carlisle United’s top scorer during the 2019/20 season, notching 11 goals in 38 appearances.
McKirdy, a product of the Aston Villa and Stoke City academies has enjoyed a number of League Two loan spells with the likes of Stevenage, Crewe Alexandra, and Newport County.
Born in London, but brought up in the Stoke-On-Trent area, McKirdy can play out wide or operate in a central role if required, proving his goalscoring abilities in a Carlisle side which finished the campaign in 18th.
McKirdy has been training with John Askey’s side for two weeks now, with preparation and fitness for the start of the Sky Bet League Two campaign taken into account.
Speaking after the conclusive signing, Chief Executive Colin Garlick stated: “I think it’s a great signing – it’s surprising we’re so close to the season and Harry is still available. He’s been training here a couple of weeks and looks like a really exciting prospect; this is a young man who knows where the goal is.”
“He’s certainly young and enthusiastic and just speaking to him, he’s absolutely raring to go. We have had an interesting couple of weeks where one door closes and another one opens, this is football.”
“We have made some quality additions to the squad and that should conclude our business in the transfer window, as the Gaffer seems to be very pleased with the squad he’s put together.”
