Tom Pope's late penalty secured three points for Port Vale at struggling Stevenage in this early 2020 clash at the Lamex Stadium.
Stevenage goalkeeper Paul Farman pulled off a string of fine saves to keep the hosts in the game, denying David Worrall twice in the opening eight minutes.
At the other end, Vale stopper Scott Brown produced a super stop to keep out Kurtis Guthrie, before denying Terence Vancooten following his long-range effort.
Vancooten squandered a great chance after the break when he failed to convert a free header, while Farman did well to keep out Tom Conlon's free-kick.
With just two minutes to go, Conlon was hauled down inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot before Pope sparked jubilant scenes among the visiting fans as he made no mistake from 12 yards, to secure Vale took the share of the points back to Burslem.

FA Cup 1st Round replay, Lamex Stadium, Tuesday 17th November 2009: Stevenage 0-1 Port Vale
Louis Dodds' sixth goal of the season sent the Vale through to round two of the FA Cup at the expense of the then non-league high-fliers Stevenage. The original tie at Vale Park had ended 1-1 with Charlie Griffin’s last minute equaliser cancelling out Adam Yates’ first half opener for the Vale.
Vale supporters were ferried to the game on free coaches and for those who couldn’t make it, the game was the first FA Cup tie to be streamed live on the FA website, earning the clubs £33,500 each.
Stevenage captain Mark Roberts' poor back-pass played in Dodds, who scored with his head in the 24thminute after his initial effort was saved by Boro keeper Chris Day.
Stevenage's Mitchell Cole was later denied an equaliser by the post after his shot beat Vale keeper Chris Martin.
The defeat was Stevenage's first home loss in almost a year, as the Valiants earnt a well-earned victory and a home tie with Huddersfield Town in the second round.
