The Port Vale Foundation has been praised by both Vale boss John Askey and club captain Leon Legge for the work that the club are doing in the community during the current coronavirus pandemic.
The club’s work in the community has received national recognition from media outlets, something which Askey believes is important within the club.
“All the credit goes to Carol and Kevin Shanahan, the club is in a different place since they have come in,” said the Valiants boss.
“I’m sure the supporters are proud of what the club is doing and we’re showing other football clubs how it should be, because a football club should be a big part of the community and help where it can.”
Port Vale have worked in unison with the Port Vale Foundation, the Hubb Foundation, Synectics Solutions and Summit Hospitality to produce and distribute thousands of meals across Stoke-on-Trent since the beginning of the current coronavirus pandemic.
The positive work of the Foundation has also caught the eye of club captain Leon Legge who joined Askey is commending their continued work across the community.
“It’s great for the community, and to hear the club be highlighted for all the right reasons, rather than the wrong reasons which has occurred in the past,” said the skipper.
“The club has completely turned a corner now and it is a testament to how Carol and Kevin are running the club at the moment.”
Legge is confident that the work in the community can go beyond the coronavirus pandemic.
“This is going to become a common theme now, and you will hear a lot more positive things the club are doing in the community and behind-the-scenes within the next six to twelve months.”
Despite the high level of work that has gone into helping the local community by the football club and Foundation, Askey believes that the club is only repaying the level of support that the fans offer to the club.
“We’ve been very appreciative of the fans that come and watch us, and hopefully the football club has been able to give a little bit back.
“The club should be proud of itself.”
And captain Leon Legge has a message for the loyal Valiants supporters during this current tough period.
“Look after yourselves, and try and enjoy yourself in any way you can during the lockdown!”
