Classic Encounters: Morecambe (A)

Tomorrow the Valiants will aim to make it back to back wins in the league as they travel to the Globe Arena to take on Morecambe. With the second league game of the new year just one day away, we look back on a classic match that the Vale have played against the Shrimps.

League Two, Globe Arena, Saturday 25th August 2012: Morecambe 1-3 Port Vale

The Vale got off to a dream start as they played the ball forward straight from the kick-off where Louis Dodds had a shot parried by Barry Roche only for Sam Morsy to arrive and rifle the ball home after just 14 seconds, the second quickest goal in Vale’s history.

Morecambe got back into the game when they levelled in the 32nd minute when Kevin Ellison cut in from the right and curled a shot past Chris Neal.

The game appeared to be heading towards a draw when Vale won a corner two minutes from time. Morsy curled it over and John McCombe beat Roche to the ball to flick a header into the net to send the 641 away fans delirious.

With Morecambe chasing the game they threw men forward and in the third minute of time added on the Vale raced away and Tom Pope slid home a third goal and the result moved Vale up to 5th in the table.
