Classic Encounter: Forest Green Rovers (H)

The Valiants will be hoping to secure their second ever home win over Rovers and take three points off a side who currently sit level on points with third placed Carlisle United. With the game just a day away, we look back on a classic match that the Vale have played against The Green Army.

League Two, Vale Park, Tuesday 20th August 2019: Port Vale 2-1 Forest Green Rovers

The Vale registered their first ever league win over Forest Green with a 2-1 victory at Vale Park early into last season.

The Valiants took the lead just four minutes into the clash when a trademark cross from James Gibbons was headed home from close range by Richie Bennett.

Their lead was not long lived however, as Gibbons lost the ball, with it being picked up by Joe Mills, who took his opportunity well, driving into the box and side-footing it past Scott Brown for the equaliser.

An entertaining first-half of end to end action eventually swung in Vale's favour when Cristian Montano beat his man and crossed to David Amoo, who made no mistake and fired into the roof of the net in the 34th minute.

The Valiants went close to extending their lead on several occasions, with Gibbons hitting the bar before half-time and Joe Wollacott keeping out a Nathan Smith header from point-blank range, but they held out for a deserved victory.
