Newcastle United's under 21s have been confirmed as the third team to be drawn against Port Vale in Group D of this years EFL Trophy Group Stage.
Group D for the EFL trophy for this season includes Port Vale, Macclesfield Town, Shrewsbury Town and Newcastle United under 21s.
We last faced Newcastle back in the 2017/18 season, where we overcame the Toon Army with a 1-0 win at Vale Park thanks to a Tyrone Barnett goal.
The Valiants faced the Shrews in the third round of the competition last season, with Tom Pope's 83rd-minute strike ensuring the tie would go to penalties, and Vale progressed after winning 4-3 in the shootout.
Macclesfield are also a side familiar to John Askey, and he will meet the Silkmen in the EFL Trophy for the first time having already come up against them in Sky Bet League Two.
Friday 12th July then sees the draw take place live on TalkSport at 12:30pm, and that will finalise the groups with Premier League Category One Academy teams also joining the competition.
Clubs are awarded three points for a win and one point for a draw. In the event of a drawn game after 90 minutes, a penalty shootout will be held with the victorious team gaining an extra point.
The top two placed teams will progress to the knock-out rounds. In the event of points being level, positions will be determined by established criteria.
Dates for the fixtures will be announced in due course.
