Our Port Vale Ladies will face Lye Town in the Women's FA Cup Extra-Preliminary Round on Sunday 18th August. Kick off is 14:00 at the Bradeley Football Centre and attendance is free for the fixture!
With 300 clubs entering this season’s Women’s FA Cup, the Port Vale Ladies will need to navigate two rounds before entering the competition proper.
The Ladies are one of 20 teams in action in the Extra-Preliminary Round, with a tricky tie at home to Lye Town – a team in the West Midlands Regional Premier Division, the division above us.
Kyle Adams, Football Development Manager, is confident of pulling of an upset against a team that finished 10thout of 11 teams in the Premier Division last season, but still urges a developing Vale team to be cautious.
Adams said: “They’re in a tough league, so even though their league position might give us a bit of belief, the gap between the divisions is something for us to be wary of. We’ve got home advantage, a new direction under new management, and we’ve been training hard. Hopefully we can get a result and progress to the next round – anything can happen in a cup competition.”
Adams knows that a good show of support would also give the Ladies a boost for their first game of the season. “The women’s game has grown substantially in the past few years with increased media coverage at the highest level and growing numbers going to watch games live. The atmosphere at women’s football is ideal for families, so it would be brilliant to see a strong crowd cheering on their local team and enjoying an afternoon of sport.”
The winners of the tie will play a home tie against Knowle in the Preliminary Round on Sunday 1stSeptember
