The Valiants are back on home soil this weekend as they host Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two, but what happened when the two sides met at the Weston Homes Community Stadium back in December?
David Worrall almost put Neil Aspin's men ahead in the first minute of the game, but his strike was well saved by Sam Walker before Sammie Szmodics went close up the other end almost immediatelly afterwards.
The home side began to grow into the game and they opened the scoring with 32 minutes on the clock. Szmodics' influence was demonstrated as he got on the end of a Tom Lapslie to slot a finish beyond Ryan Boot.
After falling behind, Vale rallied in search for an equaliser and they started the second half brightly, Antony Kay forcing the goalkeeper into a save from 30 yards before Nathan Smith saw a header scrambled off the line.
Kay then headed an effort onto the crossbar as the U's defence came under some pressure, and that saw them concede with 15 minutes remaining as Marcus Harness dispatched a header beyond Walker after he met a cross from Tyler Denton.
Szmodics went inches away from pulling Colchester back in front just a minute later, but his strike clipped the bar as Vale recorded an impressive draw against a team in good form.
