Aspin On Luke Hannant

Neil Aspin has expressed his delight in attracting Luke Hannant to Vale Park after the midfielder put pen-to-paper yesterday morning.

The 24-year old becomes Neil’s third signing of the January transfer window as the versatile player joins up with his new squad.

After attracting Hannant, the gaffer discusses his latest signing to the local media.

He said: “He’s a player who I signed at Gateshead where he was playing a few leagues below.

“He made that step a season ago and when I left Gateshead, he was always a player I kept my eye on because I felt that he would only improve. I hope that he can do that here.

“It’s a good opportunity for him, so it’s up to him to take it.”

Aspin has praised Luke’s technical ability after becoming a fond fan of the midfielder. But, admits that the signing won’t have it easy at his new club.

“He’s got great technical ability.

“But, he has to adapt to a bigger club at a higher level. He’ll be under more pressure than he is used to, but I wanted to take that gamble.

“There won’t be a lack of trying from him, he has lots of attributes that can develop here and I hope that he can have a good career.”

Coming into a new club can be daunting for any player, but Aspin believes that his new signing will fit in really well with his new teammates as they travel to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.

“We have a great group of lads who are excellent at welcoming new players into the team,” he added.

“You can’t take that for granted, you have to earn people’s respect. We have a lot of experienced players in their thirties who have seen a lot of players in their dressing rooms.

“The lads who have come in will get a chance, but they have to earn that respect. Luke is a confident lad and I think he will settle in fine.”
