Following yesterday’s 0-0 draw at home to Newport County, we caught up with defender Kyle Howkins to discuss his time at the club and his personal thoughts on the game.
The 21-year old joined up with Port Vale during the January transfer window on-loan from West Bromwich Albion.
Speaking about the bore draw against Newport, Howkins believes that his side were not up to the best of their abilities during the game.
He said: “It was a scrappy game, very end to end.
“We started off quite bright in the first 20 minutes and then we came off it towards the end. In the second-half, we couldn’t get going.
“Newport had a few chances but they didn’t put them away, so, we had to settle for the point.”
On a personal note, Howkins feels that he did okay throughout the game after being set of the task to mark danger man, Frank Nouble.
“I thought I did alright,” said Howkins.
“I won most of the headers in the air, which is what you need to do as a centre-back. I didn’t have much to do with my feet, but I’m hoping that we can kick on and get into some consistency keeping more clean sheets for the team.”
Kyle also went on to discuss his time at the club so far as he goes on to say that he is enjoying his time with the squad.
He added: “I’m enjoying myself here.
“The lads are really good, there’s a lot of banter flying around and the atmosphere is good.
“We have a lot of spirit in the dressing room which will help us going into the next few games and into the final games of the season.”
