Fixture: Port Vale vs Lincoln City
Competition: Sky Bet League Two
Date: Saturday April 14th 2018
Kick-off: 15:00
Venue: Vale Park
Preview:
Following the side's disappointing 2-1 defeat to Crawley Town last weekend, The Valiants will be looking to avoid back-to-back home defeats, as they take on promotion chasing Lincoln City.
The last time The Valiants took on The Imps was back in November of 2017, where Vale were beaten by three goals to one, after goals from Matt Green, Michael Bostwick, and Luke Waterfall ensured Lincoln got the win on that day.
Neil Aspin's side will be looking for a win to try and reassure thier survival in League Two. Vale currently sit 19th in the table, 7 points above the relegation zone.
The Imps are currently holding down a playoff spot, and are unbeaten in their last six league games. Fresh off a Checkatrade Trophy final win at Wembley, they will not be short of confidence heading into the clash at Vale Park this weekend.
The Opposition:
Lincoln City currently sit in 6th place, 13 places above The Valiants. A win for The Imps on Saturday would go a long way to making sure they secure a playoff spot, and potentially a second trip to Wembley this season.
Our opponents have enjoyed a very good run of form as of late, coming off back-to-back wins in the league, they are unbetaen in their last six.
The Imps are also fresh off winning the Checkatrade Trophy with a 1-0 at Wembley last Sunday against Shrewsbury Town, so the away team will not be lacking in confidence.
One To Watch: Matt Green
The striker began his playing career at Newport County in 2005, back when the side were playing in the Conference South. He has found himself playing for a few teams across the English league's, including Cardiff City and Birmingham City.
He joined The Imps at the start of this season from Mansfield Town, and is the side's top goalscorer this season, finding the net thirteen times.
Coupled with Lincoln's good form, Green is in goalscoring form, he has found his name on the scoresheet in three of the last four league games.
Team News:
Cristian Montano has been ruled out for the rest of the season due to a hamstring injury. The winger turned full-back was substituted off against Crawley Town last weekend, and Aspin has confirmed he will not feature again for the rest of the season.
Tom Pope and Anthony Kay are expected to feature in the side once again, with neither player showing any signs of re-injury.
Talk:
Neil Aspin: "We know this is a difficult test, anybody who faces Lincoln is going to have a difficult game. We'll have to be at our best, everyone will need to play well, you need them to carry out the job, but equally, we need to get the decisions in our favour."
Luke Hannant: It will be nice to play with a good atmosphere. On Saturday, I've got no doubt that the crowd will get behind us like they do every home game."
