The Valiants travel to Field Mill on Saturday afternoon to take on Mansfield Town in their penultimate away fixture of the season, but what happened when the two sides met back in November?
On a day where both teams created several opportunities, it was Mansfield's clinical finishing that saw them stretch their unbeaten run to six games as they left Vale Park with all three points in Sky Bet League Two.
During a tightly contested first half, Vale went inches away from taking the lead as Gavin Gunning had a header cleared off the line by Zander Diamond. Then, on the stroke of half-time, Diamond fired past Ryan Boot up the other end to put the Stags one ahead.
Following the restart, Steve Evans' men looked to widen the margin and they made it 2-0 after 52 minutes, with Diamond slotting home his second of the afternoon.
Danny Rose then conjured up a spectacular finish that flew in from range via the crossbar two minutes later, but the scoring was complete on 63 minutes as Kane Hemmings got on the end of an Alex MacDonald pass to find the corner of the net.
You have to go back to April 2003 to find the last meeting between the sides at Field Mill, but it was the Valiants who came out on top that day to pull away from the relegation zone in the Nationwide League Division Two. John Durnin scored the only goal of the game to send the 859 travelling supporters home happy.
